Melo Freire, a Brazilian politician and deputy from 1975 to 1991, died on May 8, 2026, at age 99.

Born Joaquim de Melo Freire on January 11, 1927, in Passos, Brazil, he was an economist who served in the Chamber of Deputies from 1975 to 1991. Freire was a member of the National Renewal Alliance and the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party.

He died in Belo Horizonte.
