Martin Bruns Swiss baritone and academic dead at age 65

Martin Bruns, a Swiss baritone and music lecturer, died on January 30, 2026.

Born in Weil am Rhein on November 25, 1960, he was a member of the Knabenkantorei Basel during his school years. He studied violin at the City of Basel Music Academy and later joined the Bern Symphony Orchestra.

Bruns then turned to singing, studying at the universities of Fribourg and Zürich and with Daniel Ferro. He began his singing career in the ensemble at the Hessian State Theatre in Wiesbaden and later appeared at German and European theatres and with major orchestras in Europe and North America. His repertoire ranged from early Baroque works to Mozart, Mahler and contemporary music.

Martin Bruns (25 November 1960 – 30 January 2026) was a Swiss baritone and music lecturer.
