
Mark Edward Marquess, an American college baseball coach who led the Stanford Cardinal from 1977 to 2017, died on January 30, 2026, at age 78.
Born in Stockton, California, he graduated from Stagg High School in Stockton in 1965 and attended Stanford University from 1965 to 1969. At Stanford, he played first base on the baseball team from 1967 to 1969 and was also a quarterback, split end, defensive back and punt returner on the football team from 1966 to 1968.
He died in Mountain View, California.
