John Heneghan (Gaelic footballer) Business owner dead at age 79

John Heneghan, an Irish Gaelic footballer and selector, died on January 30, 2026, at the age of 79.

Born in 1946 in Ballymahon, County Longford, he played club football with Ballymahon and Naomh Mhuire and represented the Longford senior football team at inter-county level. Heneghan began playing at juvenile and underage levels with Ballymahon, made his intermediate-team debut in 1966, and later spent eight years with Naomh Mhuire after emigrating to London that year.

He won a London senior football championship medal in 1968. He made his Longford senior debut in September 1965 and was part of the side that won the National League Division 1 title in 1966.

John Heneghan (1946 – 30 January 2026) was an Irish Gaelic football player and selector. At club level, he played with Ballymahon and Naomh Mhuire and at inter-county level with the Longford senior football team.
