Likulia Bolongo, a Congolese politician who served as prime minister of Zaire in 1997, died on June 26, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born Norbert Likulia Bolongo on July 8, 1939, in Basoko in what was then Belgian Congo, he went on to study at Aix-Marseille University in France. He led Zaire’s government briefly from April 9 to May 16, 1997, during the final months before his deposition in the First Congo War.

Bolongo also served as a general and was among the last holders of the prime minister’s office in the country before the transition to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
