Leoš Šimánek, a Czech traveler and writer, died on March 9, 2026.
He was 79. Born in Choceň, Czechoslovakia, on April 19, 1946, he studied civil engineering and left communist Czechoslovakia in 1968.
He settled in Germany, where he worked in the construction industry and later obtained German citizenship. He also became a Canadian citizen. After the Velvet Revolution in 1990, he returned to Czechoslovakia. From the 1970s onward, he traveled widely and wrote many books about his journeys.
