Léon Strauss, the French historian and academic who specialized in the history of Alsace, died on July 27, 2026, aged 98.

Born in Sarrebourg on August 14, 1927, he studied the nineteenth and twentieth century history of Alsace, with particular attention to trade unionism, the labor movement and the history of the Left in the region. Strauss was a senior lecturer at the Institut d’études politiques de Strasbourg and was later named an honorary lecturer at the University of Strasbourg.
