He was 47. Born in Mannville, Alberta, on January 5, 1979, Calder was known as Kyle Charles Calder and built his career as a forward after developing in junior hockey with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League.
The Chicago Blackhawks selected him in the fifth round of the 1997 NHL draft, and he later went on to play in the league for the Detroit Red Wings and Anaheim Ducks as well. Calder also appeared for the Cleveland Lumberjacks, the Blackhawks’ International Hockey League affiliate, early in his professional career.
