Born in Linstead, Jamaica, he studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, earning both a BFA and an MFA there, and went on to build a career as an artist, printmaker, educator, art critic, curator, and academic administrator. Morrison taught at institutions including Fisk University, the University of Michigan, DePaul University, the University of Maryland, the University of Chicago, Maryland Institute College of Art, and Temple University, where he was professor emeritus in the Tyler School of Art.
