Josep María Trías de Bes, a Spanish lawyer and politician, died on September 10, 2026, aged 81.
Born Josep María Trías de Bes i Serra in Madrid on November 19, 1944, he studied law at the University of Barcelona and went on to practice as a lawyer. He joined the Democratic Convergence of Catalonia in 1977 and entered the Congress of Deputies in 1980, replacing Joan Rigol and representing the Barcelona constituency.
Trías de Bes served as fourth secretary of the Congress from 1982 to 1989 and later as fourth vice-president from 1989 to 1993; he returned to the chamber for a further term in 1996. He was also associated with the People’s Party during his political career.
