Andrés Hernando García, the Spanish bullfighter and fighting-bull rancher, died aged 88 in a traffic collision on October 26, 2026, in La Colilla.

Born in La Velilla, a hamlet of Pedraza in Segovia, he entered professional bullfighting in the 1950s, beginning a career that included thirteen seasons as a matador. He made his debut with picadores in 1956 at the bullring in Chinchón.

On July 1, 1962, he took the alternativa at Segovia’s bullring, with Victoriano Valencia as padrino and El Viti as witness. The ceremony marked his formal step into the ranks of matadors, after which he competed for more than a decade. Three times he left Madrid’s Las Ventas through the Puerta Grande, the arena’s grand gate traditionally associated with a successful performance. In 1968, at Barcelona’s Monumental, a bull from the Pablo Romero ranch was granted an indulto, or pardon; it was the first such pardon in the Catalan city in about three decades. Hernando retired in 1974 after a bullfight at the Segovia arena.
