José María Cruz Novillo, the Spanish painter, designer and sculptor known for his logos, died on May 2, 2026, at the age of 89.

Born in Cuenca in 1936, he began painting in his native town in 1950 and moved to Madrid in 1958. He designed numerous logos, including those for El Mundo, PSOE, COPE, the Spanish postal service, Endesa, Banco Pastor, Repsol, Fundación ONCE, Diario 16, Antena 3 Radio, Antena 3 TV, El Economista, Renfe, the Spanish police and Tesoro Público.

He also designed a series of peseta bills.
