José Ballesta, the Spanish politician who served as mayor of Murcia, died on May 10, 2026, of cancer.
He was 67. Born in Murcia in 1958, he was a medical professor and a full professor at the University of Murcia from 1992.
Ballesta served as president of the university from 1998 to 2006 and held office as mayor of Murcia from 2015 to 2021 and again from 2023. He also served as a minister in the Government of the Region of Murcia from 2007 to 2014.
