
Abraham Foxman, an American lawyer and activist who served as director of the Anti-Defamation League from 1987 to 2015, died on May 10, 2026, at age 86.
He was the organization’s national director emeritus at the time of his death. Foxman was born in Baranovichi, then in the Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic, on May 1, 1940.
From 2016 to 2021, he served as vice chair of the board of trustees at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York City, where he led its efforts on antisemitism.
