Johanna Fernández, an American historian and associate professor of history at Baruch College, died on July 30, 2026, aged 55.
A Dominican-American scholar based in New York City, she focused her academic work on the Young Lords, a subject that culminated in her book The Young Lords: A Radical History, published in 2019. Fernández earned recognition for her research and teaching, including a Fulbright Scholarship, the Merle Curti Award and the Liberty Legacy Foundation Award.
