Jean Fourié, a French writer and community activist, died on June 8, 2026, at the age of 81.
Born in Espéraza on November 20, 1944, he worked for the Caisse des dépôts et consignations after moving to Paris. He joined the Société d’études scientifiques de l’Aude in 1973, where he met the Occitan activist Jean Lesaffre, and the following year became general secretary of the Société des félibres de Paris.
In 1987, he was named Major of the Félibrige. Fourié was known for his work on Occitan literature, including Dictionnaire des auteurs de langue d’oc de 1800 à nos jours.
