Ignacio Gómez Aristizábal, a Colombian Roman Catholic prelate who served as bishop of Ocaña from 1972 to 1992 and as archbishop of Santa Fe de Antioquia from 1992 to 2007, died on June 5, 2026.
He was 96. Born on December 2, 1929, in El Peñol, Antioquia, he studied at the Major Seminary of Medellín, where he completed his philosophical and theological formation before his ordination to the priesthood on August 17, 1958.
After years in pastoral ministry in Colombia, he was appointed to the episcopate and went on to lead the Diocese of Ocaña for two decades before serving as archbishop until his retirement in 2007. He died in Ocaña.
