Godefroid Mukeng’a Kalond, a Congolese Roman Catholic prelate who served as bishop of Luiza from 1971 to 1997 and archbishop of Kananga from 1997 to 2006, died on May 14, 2026, at the age of 95.
Born on August 31, 1930, in Tshibingu-Mukese in what was then the Belgian Congo, he joined the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and was ordained a priest on March 2, 1958. Pope Paul VI appointed him Bishop of Luiza on August 30, 1971, and he received episcopal consecration on December 5, 1971.
He retired in 2006.
