
Georgy Golitsyn, a Russian scientist, died on May 6, 2026.
He was 91. Golitsyn worked in atmospheric physics and became a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, later the Academy of Sciences of Russia, in 1987.
He also served as editor-in-chief of Izvestiya, Atmospheric and Oceanic Physics, and was a member of the Academia Europaea from 2000. His work included studies of atmospheric circulation on other planets, predictions about Venus in 1969, a model for dust storms on Mars, and research linking severe Siberian forest fires in 1915 to global cooling.
