George Wang, the Taiwanese actor and producer, died on March 27, 2015, at age 96.
Born Wang Chun-yang in Dandong, Liaoning, in 1918, he studied at Northeastern University before leaving to join the National Salvation Front during the Second Sino-Japanese War and adopting the name Wang Jie. He entered film school in Shanghai in 1938 and made his screen debut the following year in “Defending Our Homeland.” Wang later worked in Chongqing and returned to Shanghai in 1947, before moving on to become a significant figure in the early development of Taiwanese and Hong Kong cinema.
International audiences also knew him for his appearances in Italian films in the 1960s and 1970s.
