Gary Dontzig, an American television producer, screenwriter and actor, died on February 23, 2026, at age 79.
He worked as a writer and producer on television programs including “Murphy Brown,” “Suddenly Susan” and “Becker.” With his writing partner, Steven Peterman, he also wrote for the second season of “W.I.T.C.H.,” after being hired by their longtime friend and neighbor Greg Weisman. Dontzig won two Primetime Emmy Awards and received three additional nominations for Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series from 1991 to 1993.
