Galina Kukleva, a Russian biathlete who won Olympic and world championship medals, died on July 14, 2026.

Born Galina Alekseyevna Kukleva on November 21, 1972, in Ishimbay, she competed for Russia and Soviet Union and was educated at the University of Tyumen, where she later worked. Kukleva’s career highlights included a gold medal in the 7.5 km sprint at the 1998 Winter Olympics, a silver in the relay at those Games, and a bronze medal with the relay team at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

She also won silver in the mass start at the 2000 World Championships and collected five relay medals across the event, including golds in 2000, 2001 and 2003. By the end of her career she had won nine World Cup races. She received the Order of Honour, the Medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland,” 2nd class without swords, and the title of Master of Sport of the USSR.
