Ramachandra Gowda, an Indian politician and long-serving Karnataka Legislative Council member, died on July 14, 2026.
Born on December 13, 1938, in Thippur in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur district, he became active in public life during his school years after being inspired by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. While still in high school, he took part in the Goa Liberation Movement and later joined the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, entering the Bangalore City Corporation in 1970 and serving on the City Improvement Trust Board the same year.
A senior BJP leader in Karnataka, he was first elected to the Karnataka Legislative Council from the Bangalore Graduates Constituency in 1988 and won re-election three times, in 1994, 2000 and 2006. He also held ministerial portfolios including Small Savings, Mining and Geology, and Science and Technology in the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government headed by H. D. Kumaraswamy.
