Fredric Kroll American-German composer dead at age 81

Fredric Kroll, an AmericanGerman composer and writer, died on March 2, 2026.

Born Fredric Joseph Kroll on February 7, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, he was the only child of Alexander Kroll and Sarah Kroll. Kroll began composing at age 11, including a cycle of 30 piano pieces in all tonalities, and later wrote a Sonata for Violin and Piano in G Minor in 1958.

His early vocal writing included the ballad “Ulalume,” after Edgar Allan Poe, in 1959.

Fredric Joseph Kroll (7 February 1945 – 12 February 2026) was an American-German composer and writer.
