Eve Uusmees, the Estonian Olympic swimmer, died on February 10, 2026, at the age of 89.
Born in Tallinn in 1936, she was an Estonian breaststroke swimmer who won silver in the 4×100 m medley relay at the 1958 European Aquatics Championships. She also competed in the 200 m breaststroke at the 1960 Summer Olympics, where she was eliminated in the preliminaries.
Maurer, as she was later known, started training in gymnastics before switching to swimming around 1952. She competed for the Estonian team from 1953 to 1964 and for the Soviet Union team from 1956 to 1962.
