Known also as Eggie Apostol and Eugenia “Eggie” Apostol, she was born in Sorsogon City on September 29, 1925, and became one of the country’s most influential newspaper figures. In 1977, she and her husband, Jose Apostol, established the magazine Mr.
& Ms., where she served as editor-in-chief. The publication later became known for its special coverage of the investigation into the assassination of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr., and in December 1985 she helped found the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Apostol was later recognized with the Ramon Magsaysay Award and the ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award.
