He served as Indonesia’s ambassador to Germany from 2009 to 2013 and later as President Joko Widodo’s special envoy for IndonesianMalaysian maritime delimitation from 2015 to 2018. A graduate of the 17 August University, Pratomo spent three decades in the foreign ministry, including as director general of international law and treaties from 2006 to 2008.

After retiring from diplomatic service, he taught international law at several Indonesian universities, became a full professor at Diponegoro University, and served as dean of the law faculty at Pancasila University from 2020 until his death.
