Born in Arezzo in 1932, he was identified in Brazilian reporting as a journalist, sports commentator and engineer, and was also known by the nickname Mestre Carsughi. He moved to Florence at age five and came to Brazil in March 1946 after the end of World War II, spending a month in Rio de Janeiro before settling in São Paulo, where he studied at Colégio Dante Alighieri and later at the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo.
