
Chris Phelan, an Irish-born Australian rugby league player, died on May 5, 2026, aged 70, after pancreatic cancer.
Born in Borris-in-Ossory, Portloise, Ireland, on December 12, 1955, he played in the 1980s as a versatile forward for Queensland and was a two-time New South Wales Rugby League premiership winner with the Parramatta Eels. He also played for Oldham and was selected for Queensland at lock in all three games of the 1981 interstate series.
Phelan was the Brisbane Rugby League premierships Rothmans Medal winner in 1981.
