Bonnie Greer, the American–British playwright, critic and novelist, died on September 16, 2026, aged 77.
Born in Chicago in 1948, she lived in the UK from 1986 and built a career as a writer, broadcaster and arts commentator. Greer appeared as a panellist on television programmes including Newsnight Review and Question Time, and served on the boards of major cultural institutions such as the British Museum, the Royal Opera House and the London Film School.
She was vice president of the Shaw Society, a former chancellor of Kingston University and was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire for services to the arts. In 2022, she became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature.
