Louis Cardinals, died on May 26, 2026. Born James Robert Horner on August 6, 1957, in Maricopa County, he made his name as a third baseman and first baseman in Major League Baseball and the Nippon Professional Baseball league from 1978 to 1988.

Horner bypassed the minor leagues after a record-setting college career at Arizona State, won National League Rookie of the Year honors in 1978, and was selected to the 1982 NL All-Star team. He also formed a power-hitting tandem with Dale Murphy during the Braves’ early-1980s teams and spent the 1987 season with the Yakult Swallows in Japan before returning to MLB.
