A former Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office deputy, he was identified in connection with the July 6, 2024, killing of Sonya Massey in Woodside Township near Springfield, Illinois, after responding to her 911 call about a possible prowler. He was later fired, charged with three counts of first-degree murder, and ultimately convicted of second-degree murder after a trial in which he claimed self-defense.
Grayson received the maximum 20-year sentence on January 29, 2026, and died in prison less than a year later.
