
Aryeh Stern, an Israeli rabbi and the Ashkenazi chief rabbi of Jerusalem, died on May 6, 2026, at the age of 81.
He was a member of the Chief Rabbinate Council of Israel and served as chief editor of the Halacha Brura and Berur Halacha Institute. Born in Tel Aviv in 1944, Stern studied at the HaYishuv HaChadash yeshiva, the Hebron Yeshiva in Jerusalem, and the Mercaz HaRav Kook yeshiva.
He later pursued studies for dayanut, Jewish-religious judgeship, and fought in the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War.
