Yosef Hagoel, an Israeli military officer, died on October 4, 2026, aged 80.
Born in Tel Aviv and raised in Ramat Gan, he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and served in the Six-Day War with the 28th Battalion of the 55th Paratroopers Brigade. During that fighting, his legs were severely wounded, and he was pulled to safety by Shlomo Epstein, a medic who was killed in an explosion while trying to save him.
Hagoel later fought in the Yom Kippur War and the 1982 Lebanon War. In 2023, he was promoted to major general, and Mako reported that he had accumulated more than 3,000 days of reserve duty.
