Born in Bangalore, Karnataka, he went to Canada on a free passage with the Royal Canadian Air Force at 19 before hitchhiking to New York to study with Sanford Meisner. Page later became a prominent figure in British theatre and film, taking over directing at the Royal Court in 1964 when George Devine fell ill.
Among his best-known work was Inadmissible Evidence, which he directed with Nicol Williamson.
