Alberto Coutinho, an American politician and member of the New Jersey General Assembly, died on March 29, 2026, in Newark, New Jersey, at age 56.
A Democrat, he represented the 29th Legislative District in the Assembly from May 1997 to January 1998 and again from January 8, 2008, until his resignation on September 11, 2013. Coutinho was born in Newark on June 16, 1969, and also served on the city’s planning and zoning boards and as an Essex County Utilities Authority commissioner.
