Albert Alós, a Spanish-born Nigerian engineer, academic and missionary, died on September 5, 2026, aged 86.
Born in Barcelona in 1939, he graduated in electrical engineering from the University of Bilbao in 1966 and began his career teaching in Kenya before moving to Nigeria the following year on a UNESCO-arranged contract to help establish an electrical engineering department at the University of Ife. He remained in Nigeria for the rest of his career, teaching at the University of Lagos in the 1970s and the University of Ibadan in the 1980s, and later helped found the Lagos Business School.
From 1993, he served as the school’s first general director and first dean, and in the 2000s he was vice chancellor of Pan-Atlantic University.
