Alan Saret, an American postminimalist artist and sculptor whose wire works helped define parts of the Soho alternative art scene, died on May 26, 2026.
He was 81. Born in New York City in 1944, Saret studied architecture at Cornell University, graduating in 1966, and later continued postgraduate work at Hunter College.
His early years in New York put him in contact with sculptor Robert Morris, an encounter that deepened his interest in Minimalism and later Process Art. Based in Brooklyn, Saret also worked as a draftsman and painter; his work was associated with systems art, generative art and post-conceptual art, and he received a Guggenheim Fellowship.
