Adolfo Battaglia, an Italian politician and journalist who served as minister of industry, commerce and craftsmanship, died on June 18, 2026, at the age of 96.

Born in Viterbo on February 10, 1930, he became one of the Italian Republican Party’s prominent figures, joining the party in 1965 and later serving on its national directorate and as deputy political secretary. Battaglia was first elected to the Chamber of Deputies in 1972 and went on to hold a seat for six terms, from the Sixth through the Eleventh legislatures.

During the 1980s he served as the party’s parliamentary leader, and he also worked twice as an undersecretary for foreign affairs. In government, he was minister of industry in three successive cabinets between 1987 and 1991.
