Yung, a Chinese-born American planetary scientist and professor of planetary science at the California Institute of Technology, died on March 15, 2026. Born in Hong Kong on August 23, 1946, he earned a B.S.

in engineering physics with honors from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Ph.D. in physics from Harvard University in 1974. He specialized in the physics and chemistry of planetary atmospheres and worked on NASA projects including Galileo, Cassini-Huygens and the Earth Observing System.

Yuk-ling Yung (Chinese: 翁玉林; pinyin: Wóng Yùlín; August 23, 1946 – March 16, 2026) was a Hong Kong physicist who had been a Professor of Planetary Science at the California Institute of Technology from 1986.
