Wayne Perkins, an American guitarist, died on March 15, 2026.
Perkins, whose full name was David Wayne Perkins, was a rock and R&B guitarist, singer, songwriter and session musician born in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1951. He taught himself to play guitar at age 12 and was the oldest of six children.
A 2017 feature on AL.com described him as “arguably the greatest guitarist Alabama ever produced.” He was best known for his work with the Rolling Stones and also contributed to recordings by artists including Bob Marley and Joni Mitchell.
