Willy Loretan, a Swiss politician, died on February 24, 2026, at the age of 91.
Born in Basel on June 15, 1934, he began his political career in 1966 with his election to the Zofingen Residents’ Council. He served in the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau from 1969 to 1981, where he was parliamentary group president of the FDP, and was mayor of Zofingen from 1974 to 1992.
Loretan was elected to the National Council in 1979 and to the Council of States in 1991.
