Varinder Singh Bajwa, an Indian politician and former member of the Rajya Sabha, died on September 11, 2026, aged 82.
A senior vice-president of the Shiromani Akali Dal, he began his political career with the party in 1980 and served as a youth Akali leader in the 1980s. Bajwa was elected president of Hoshiarpur in 1995 and went on to represent Punjab in the Rajya Sabha from 2004 to 2010.
He later left the Akali Dal, had a brief stint in Congress in 2017, and returned to the Akali fold before the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections.
