Trevor Oakes English guitarist and songwriter dead at age 79

Trevor Oakes, the English guitarist and songwriter best known for his work with Showaddywaddy, died on February 18, 2026, aged 79.

Born Trevor Leslie Oakes in Leicester on September 9, 1946, he was a member of the glam rock band from 1973 until 2009 and was one of its main songwriters, writing many of the group’s minor hits and album tracks with lead singer Dave Bartram. He also played saxophone on stage and had previously performed in Choise, which merged with The Golden Hammers to form Showaddywaddy in 1973.

Trevor Leslie Oakes (9 September 1946 – 18 February 2026) was an English glam rock guitarist and songwriter. He is best known for being the guitarist for band Showaddywaddy, of which he was a member from 1973 until 2009. Oakes was one of the main songwriters for the band, penning most of their minor hits and album track with lead singer Dave Bartram.
