
Ted Turner, the American media proprietor who founded CNN, WTBS and TNT, died on May 6, 2026, at age 87.
Born Robert Edward Turner III on November 19, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was an entrepreneur, television producer, media proprietor and philanthropist whose career ran from 1960 to 2018. He also co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative in 2001 and gave $1 billion to create the United Nations Foundation, where he served as chairman of the board of directors.
