Steve Derewianchuk, a Canadian politician and Manitoba MLA from 1973 to 1977, died on March 18, 2026.
Born in Vita, Manitoba, in 1935, he served as a New Democratic member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, representing Emerson. In the 1973 provincial election, he defeated Progressive Conservative candidate Garnet Kyle by 437 votes.
Derewianchuk also played baseball as a catcher with the Vita Cubs, Tolstoi Jets, Winkler Royals and Rossburn, later continuing in slow pitch and joining a Manitoba Fastball provincial champion team in the 65+ category in 2000. He was named to the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.
