Born in Jaffna in 1941, he was also known as Kanthaiya Kunarasa and Senkaiahliyan. He wrote prolifically after the 1960s, building a body of work that included more than thirty novels and several non-fiction books.
A critic in the literary world as well as a writer, he also served as registrar of the University of Jaffna.
