
Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, a Libyan politician, died on February 3, 2026, at age 53.
The second son of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi and Safia Farkash, he was part of his father’s inner circle and carried out public relations and diplomatic roles on his behalf. He publicly turned down his father’s offer of the country’s second-highest post and held no official government position.
During his father’s rule, he was among the best-known figures in Libya and was at times described as a possible successor, though he rejected that role.
