Allan Massie Writer dead at age 87

Allan Massie, a British journalist, died on February 3, 2026, aged 87.

Massie was a Scottish journalist, columnist and sports writer who worked for several newspapers in England and Scotland. He wrote regular columns for The Scotsman, The Sunday Times (Scotland), the Scottish Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph and the Glasgow Herald.

He was The Scotsman’s chief fiction reviewer for a quarter of a century and also wrote on rugby union and cricket for the paper. Massie was the author of 40 books, including more than 25 novels, and retired from newspaper work in 2026.

Allan Johnstone Massie CBE FRSL FRSE (16 October 1938 – 3 February 2026) was a Scottish journalist, columnist and sports writer who worked for several newspapers in both England and Scotland. Massie was also the author of 40 books, including over 25 novels.
