Pye Dubois, the Canadian lyricist and poet who wrote for Max Webster, Kim Mitchell and occasionally Rush, died on September 15, 2026, aged 77.
Born Paul Phillip Woods, he was best known for his long association with Max Webster, with whom he was regarded as an unofficial fifth, non-performing member and for whom he wrote lyrics for every album. He also worked closely with Kim Mitchell on a series of solo releases, contributing to albums including Akimbo Alogo, Shakin’ Like a Human Being and Rockland.
Dubois was credited on several Rush songs, most notably “Tom Sawyer,” and his poem “There is a Lake Between Sun and Moon” helped inspire material on the band’s Counterparts album.
